Community College Award

Requirements

Applicants for an UGLA Scholarship who plan to attend a Los Angeles County community college to pursue a two-year degree or vocational certificate must meet the following requirements.

You are  a graduating senior at one of the following high schools.

      • Allen Tennenbaum Family Technical High School
      • Eagle Rock High School
      • Franklin High School
      • Highland Park Continuation High School
      • Lincoln High School
      • Los Angeles County High School for the Arts
      • Los Angeles Leadership Academy
      • PUC eCals
      • Renaissance Arts Academy
      • Sotomayor Arts and Sciences Magnet
      • Woodrow Wilson Senior High School

You have applied to a Los Angeles County community college.

      • If you are selected as an UGLA Scholarship award recipient, you will be asked to provide proof that you have enrolled for a minimum of eight (8) units of study in the Summer or Fall of 2022 in order to receive payment of the award stipend.

You are able to demonstrate a commitment to social justice, with a focus on the LGBTQ+ community.

      • We will provide further information about this later in the application process.

 

Applying

There are two steps to the application process.

Complete, sign, and submit the online application form.

      • You can access the application form by clicking “Application” at the end of this page.

Provide the following materials to support your application.

  • Transcript of high school grades and courses in progress
  • Short narrative describing your background, aspirations after college, and connection to the LGBTQ+ community
  • Narrative describing activities that demonstrate your advocacy for social justice issues and your impact as a result, with a focus on  the LGBTQ+ community in particular
  • List of your participation in sports, arts, music, culture, and cultural heritage activities, and why these activities are important to you
  • A letter of recommendation
  • The email from the community college you will attend acknowledging receipt of your application and assigning your student ID number

 

After you submit your online application, you will automatically go to a page on this website with complete details about the supporting materials you must provide as part of the application process. Once you have assembled your package of materials, you will email it to UGLA.

Both your online application and your supporting materials must be received by UGLA no later than Saturday, April 30, 2022 – no exceptions.

If you are selected to receive an UGLA Scholarship Award, you will be expected to attend the UGLA Scholarship Award Ceremony on June 12, 2022 at 2:00pm. The location will be in the northeast Los Angeles area and will be announced later.
